I don't know how many of you have heard, but Saturday June 9th is World Wide Knit in Public Day. Last year I went to a knitting group that met that day next to the Berkeley Rose Garden, and it was pretty fun to knit with a bunch of people outside. If you want, you can go find a friend and a bench somewhere, bust out your knitting and have at it, but you can also form an official group that will be recognized by the wwkip website, which will more than likely get a bunch more knitters to show up and knit with you (that's how I found my location last year!)
If you go to you can get all the information you need about what it is, what to do if you want to make a group, and where groups are already established. Last year there were a heckofa lot of groups around the Bay Area, but so far this year the only sign up in the whole state of CA is in the City itself. Anyone want to get a group together in their area, or do you know someone who would be willing to make a group? It seems really easy; sign up by May 25 and then show up where you said you'd be. That's... about it. And maybe you'll make new knitting friends. The website tells you everything you need to know. :o)
